“I am 32 years old and live in Belgium. Gardening is my passion and I love being outdoors. As a child, I was very passionate about plants. It’s extremely fascinating to see how a small seed can become in no-time a productive plant which provides tons of yummy veggies. So one day I put a zucchini seed in a container, and the story began.
Our vegetable garden consists of a greenhouse, raised beds and a fruit garden. My husband and 2 lovely children love to help me on a daily basis. We grow traditional veggies like tomatoes, pumpkins, spinach, leek, but we adore to try out some special veggies like luffa cucumber, kiwano and tromboncino.
I’m convinced that growing food can help improve biodiversity. In rich and natural soil, pests and diseases will have less chance to develop. I grow nasturtiums, which attract aphids, in order to prevent other plants from being infested.
Trading seeds with other gardeners is one of the things I love the most. By trading seeds you can keep the seed heritage alive because some varieties will otherwise be extinct. Exchanging ideas with other gardeners and helping each other out with tips and tricks feels great, too! Don’t be scared to make mistakes. Only by trying out new things you can develop your full potential.”
